Mental Health Activities

Children’s Mental Health Week 2022

The theme this year was loneliness so I asked Red Group how you can stop feeling lonely.  They said they would play with their friends and help them if they were sad and alone.  We planned activities to support this and had great fun carrying them out!  We did peer massage, which proved very popular, if a little tickly!  The children asked each other’s permission before they touched their backs.  We played a range of classical music for the children to listen to while they were painting and asked them how it made them feel.  The children then painted to express their feelings.  Everyone was included in a team- building task in our Forest School; the children were set a challenge to work together to make an obstacle course with planks, logs and tyres.  It didn’t take them long and there was a lot of negotiation took place in order for them to reach their goal!  We have been talking about farms and farm animals recently in Nursery so I asked the children in Red Group if they could work together to make a large farm for all our animals.  Each child contributed their own enclosures until we had built a fantastic farm for the children to work with. Great team work!

Mental Health Week

16th May 2022Mrs J Parker

During Mental Health Week our children talked a lot about their feelings.  We looked at what can make us happy and sad and how we express these emotions.  We had fun listening to a wide range of music and painting how it made us feel onto large pieces of paper.  We looked carefully at ourselves in mirrors and talked about our similarities and differences, what we liked and what our friends liked to do.  We loved singing calm songs under the parachute.  We felt very chilled!

Our eggs have hatched this week… The snug children were so egg-cited to see them!!

Mrs Fulton carefully held a chick while the children took turns to stoke them.

One of our children drew an egg with a chick inside it.

November Kids Club

19th November 2021Mrs J Parker

At kids club over the past few weeks we have been really interested in building our own dens. So much so that we decided to have our tea in the den and watched the Gruffalo as a special treat!

We have loved exploring outside this week.  We have played in the autumn leaves, played football ,completed the climbing obstacle course and dug for pirate treasure.

For tea on Friday we made fruit kebabs and drizzled chocolate over the top, they were so yummy!

October at kids club

This month at kids club we have been super busy exploring all things autumn and Halloween themed.

The children have joined in with large scale body painting, created autumn animals using leafs we found on a leaf hunt around our forest school , tasted super sour apples that were grown in snug garden.  We helped make chocolate crispy cakes for our pudding ,spotted rainbows on the way to school , designed and carved our own pumpkins and had a good old game of hide and seek!

Forest School with the Snug

19th October 2021Mrs J Parker

Children worked together to discover what was hiding under the large tree stump.  They had to figure out how to move it first.  When they looked under the stump they were amazed to see so many mini beasts!
