Nursery Rhyme Week

14th November 2025Kelly Reid

We have been celebrating nursery rhyme week at nursery through a range of different activities linked to songs.
The songs we have focused on are;

Humpty Dumpty – in the provision we had Humpty Dumpty puppets out with the wooden blocks and shaving foam, the children created their own amazing walls for Humpty to sit on! And for small group time we went to the kitchen where we made some scrambled egg and toast!

Sing a song of sixpence – in forest school we looked for different types of birds as we went on a bird hunt!

I hear thunder – we used musical instruments to create different sounds, drew different kinds of weather as well as discussing it too.

Pirate song – we explored the pirate resources in the sand, looking for our treasure! As well as trying to pirate dancing and yoga.

Two little dickie birds – we created our own bird puppets by drawing and cutting them out!

There were lots of lovely things to enjoy — from potion making and using pipettes to create pumpkin shapes with water and cotton pads, to painting pumpkins with brushes and sponges, and even washing pumpkins in our very own pumpkin washing station! The children showed such great curiosity and creativity throughout the session. ✨

Pumpkin patch event

4th November 2025Kelly Reid

We held our Pumpkin Patch event, and it was such a fantastic evening! It was wonderful to welcome our children and their families into nursery for some spooky fun and autumn adventures.

Our pumpkin patch was bursting with pumpkins, and there were some incredible designs created at our painting and carving stations. The campfire was a huge hit too — everyone loved the delicious hot dogs cooked over the fire and our tasty hot chocolates to keep warm.

There were tricks and treats galore, with many brave children daring to put their hands into the Trick or Treat Surprise Box! And of course, our Halloween cake stall was another big success. ️

We’re thrilled to share that we raised an amazing £295.70 from the event and your generous cake sales! Thank you so much for your support and kindness — all funds will go directly towards enhancing learning opportunities for our children in nursery.

It truly was a wonderful evening filled with laughter, creativity, and community spirit. We’ve added some photos of the event for you to browse and enjoy — we hope they capture just how special the evening was!

Harvest Festival

4th November 2025Kelly Reid

We were so glad to welcome everyone to our Harvest Festival today!

This is such a special time of year when we come together to say thank you for the food we eat, to think about sharing with others, and to celebrate the wonderful autumn season.

Our children have been working so hard—learning songs and talking about all the good things that grow. Earlier this week, they enjoyed a visit from Farmer Jill, who shared a special story and brought along vegetables grown on her allotment. The children then chopped and cooked these into a tasty soup, which they prepared for our families—served with some freshly baked bread.

Children also spent time reflecting on what they are thankful for, and their lovely thoughts were written onto our Pumpkin of Thanks and added to our Harvest display.

Farmer Jill and Harvest..

4th November 2025Kelly Reid

‍ We had a special visit from Farmer Wright (Mrs Wright). Mrs Wright has an amazing allotment where she grows her own fruit and vegetables. She kindly brought some in for us to look at and use! First she showed the children the foods as a seed, to show how small they started, then we spoke about how to care for them and what they need, such as water and sun, and then we saw how big they are now! We all had a little turn holding and looking at the vegetable. Farmer Wright also read us a lovely story about a Scarecrow.

‍ We were very excited to make our own Scarecrow! We were provided with some great clothes to make our scarecrow, first we used straw to stuff the clothes! All the children loved doing this part, seeing who could fit the most in. We spoke about what a scarecrows job is, how he scares all the birds and crows from the crops and seeds.
As you can see, the children were really happy with their scarecrow!

Our next job was making bread! We sat at the table on the veranda, we poured the ingredients into a bowl, each having a little turn. We added some water, mixed it together and then all had a bit to kneed. The children loved this part, as we had flour everywhere they all said we looked like snowmen! The children all worked really hard to squash, squeeze and kneed the dough. Once it was the right texture, Miss Hamilton put it in the bread maker for us. You’ll all make fantastic bakers!

Time to make soup.. we used the vegetables Farmer Wright brought in as well as some extras. First we had to wash them to make them nice and clean. Then each of the children had a turn to chop the vegetables! We also added lentils and stock cubes to the soup. They showed great skills in carefully cutting them.
