Yellow Group

09.10.17

By F Waterhouse17th October 2017

Forest School

Some of Yellow Group went on a very exciting bug hunt in Forest school! They found all sorts of creepy crawlies under the logs and rocks. The children used their brushes to scoop up the bugs carefully into their bug pots.

Miss Begum was definitely afraid of some the big spiders crawling around!

Scarlett – “I found a snail!”

Leon – “I found a big, big worm!”

Logan found a very slimy slug on our way down to the den.

Cruz had a centipede and a woodlouse in his bug pot.

Yellow Group explored mark making tools in the top room. They used different types of shapes, pens and pencils on a large roll of paper. There was lots of creativity being shown.

Leo – “Ive done a train! There’s some wheels.”

Harriet – “I’m doing a rainbow”

Esme – “I’m making triangles, lots and lots, of triangles.”

Jack – “I did that, there.”

02.10.17

By F Waterhouse17th October 2017

Today the children gathered fruit from the nursery garden.  They even explored the secret nursery garden and collected as many pears, plums, apples and raspberries they could find! They washed them ready for the afternoon and even had some for snack.

After collecting the fruit the children explored the frog pond – Miss Pollard has definitely made a new friend!

The afternoon children chopped the fruit up into little bits and added them to the cake mixture that they made themselves.  We used butter, eggs, flour, vanilla, lemon and baking powder to make a fabulous cake for our autumn celebration tomorrow.

It looks delicious!

06.10.17 Readers from Jarrow Cross Primary School

By F Waterhouse6th October 2017

Today we had a visit from a school council member from Jarrow Cross Primary School who came and read one of our stories of the week to each of our groups of children. It was a lovely experience for all of the children.

Yellow Group Week beginning the 25th of September

By Mrs J Parker3rd October 2017

Some of Yellow Group explored the Small World area in the Nursery. The dinosaurs and trains proved to be very popular until the coloured blocks came out! There was a lot of balancing and building of towers. Esme said she was building a “big big tower!” while Harriet decided, “I don’t need to build a big tower, I’m gonna build a little tower.”

Jack put his dinosaurs in a line and got very excited when he had a handful of “teeny tiny dinosaurs!”

Leo couldn’t keep his trains on the track! “They keep falling off the end.” He worked with James to make a longer track so the trains stay on.

FOREST SCHOOL Yellow Group 26.09.2017

Today we found some mushrooms growing in Forest School so the children talked about how they are dangerous and what we need to do if we find them.  The children cut and stuck pictures of our mushrooms and other mushrooms into the floor book and talked about what to do when we found them.

The morning children explored the forest and loved paying with the Elderberries which grow in abundance in the nursery forest.  Jenson and Holly used the berries to make butterfly drawings.

The afternoon children found 3 snails and they looked at them close up and they even built a den for them.  There was a huge interest in birds so the children put out seeds for the birds and they all made bird feeders.  We hid in the bird hide and looked for the birds.

All of the children sat round the campfire and revisited the campfire rules.  They were fantastic at remembering the campfire rules so we lit the campfire and the children toasted their own marshmallows!

Week beginning 18th September 2017

By F Waterhouse22nd September 2017

Some of the Yellow Group (MTW) explored the creative area! We remembered to roll our sleeves up and put on aprons before we got all messy! We spent some time exploring different coloured paints and making our own pictures! There were a lot of flowers and rainbows being painted.

Some of the Yellow Group (WTF) explored the mud kitchen area! The children made some delicious mud soup and explored the equipment in our kitchen!

FOREST SCHOOL Yellow Group 20.09.2017

Today the new children explored the Forest School areas. They were fantastic at putting on their own splash suits. We walked into the Willow Dome and introduced our Forest School Calendar and talked about the days of the week, the weather and the seasons.

The children collected lots of leaves and compared their colours, shapes and sizes.

They had great fun with fallen autumn fruit and also played with some plastic piping.

We looked in the pond to see what we could see. Harriett touched a frog and said ‘it’s cold’.

Alba and Leo loved the mud kitchen and made some yummy mud cookies with decorations.

Finally the children gathered around the campfire area and we discussed fire rules and what we have to do to keep ourselves safe when the fire is lit. The children were excellent and thinking up rules and we finished off by having a yummy hot chocolate and some marshmallows
