After our lovely trip to the farm the children have been animal craaaazy! So we decided to explore different type of farm and wild animals for small group time.

The children were given individual bags full of different resources e.g. fences, walls, assortment of animals. They were left to their own creative devices to explore and play and build their own zoo’s and farms. Some of the children shared their resources with each other to make bigger fields of animals.

We also went on our Teddy Bears Picnic this week which was so much fun! We went down to the forest and had lots of yummy snacks with our cuddly teddy’s and then explored the environment, looking for flowers and climbing the trees.

Some children were ever so daring they climbed up so high and were swinging like cheeky monkeys!

The teddy’s also joined in and they all got stuck up the big tree and needed rescuing by Miss Pollard and Miss Begum!

We had a lovely walk there and back and the children were super sensible and looked after their teddies, especially when walking across the River Don where we stopped to look at the ducklings.

This week we explored sorting junk modelling materials into the correct categories. We looked at materials made out of plastic and cardboard and looked at different sizes. There was a lot of open ended discussion which was great to observe.

We also used mirrors to explore our faces and how different we are. The children noticed that they had different coloured eyes to some of their peers and different coloured hair. They were then trying to draw their faces using the mark making materials provided in their writing books. Some continued to check their faces in the mirror… and some practiced making silly faces!

Some of the boys and girls extended this by drawing other people important to them.

It was a lovely time mark making in the top room, we even had some calming instrumental music playing in the background before playing some of The Greatest Showman and having a sing a long!

Chick, chick, chick, chick… CHICKEN!!!

We have Chicks in our NURSERY!! Wooohooo

Yellow group had a very important job to do and that was to make sure our nursery chicks were well looked after! They did an AMAZING job if I do say so myself.

We had lots of fun with the chicks.

From watching them wobble, crack and hatch > becoming fluffy > to becoming chirping happy little chicks in their brooding box.

The children were always checking on the chicks to see if they were ok. They did a great job helping set up the brooding box and making sure they were always fed and kept warm. We really enjoyed letting the chicks go wild in the top room, some got so excited that they tried flapping away!

Yellow group definitely showed they can be super sensible and responsible around animals and are great at looking after them!

The chicks have now left the nursery and gone back to the living eggs farm and some have been re-homed to a lovely family that will be taking extra special care of them! Thank You!

We also had a lovely surprise visit from Flopsy the nursery bunny. She certainly enjoyed exploring the yellow group room and hopped around to say hi to some of the children.

This week Yellow Group were thinking about Mental Health Awareness and explored lots of different activities. We enjoyed dancing around during the feelings corner game and did some relaxing yoga. You can clearly see which yoga position the children were great at!

The boys and girls thoroughly enjoyed using lots of sparkly glitter, sequins and JEWELS to make calming bottles. They enjoyed shaking them and tipping them upside down and watching the sparkles inside float around.

It was a lovely week discussing our feelings and engaging in lots of calming activities

10th May 2018F Waterhouse

Yellow Group explored making arrangements using 2D shapes and natural materials. Some of the children started to make up their own patterns by drawing around different shapes. While others attempted to draw shapes freehand! I was a very exciting moment for some children!

There was a lot of creativity shown from children using the resources in their own unique ways. As some would chose to draw and make marks others used the materials to make constructions e.g. houses, lollipops, towers and used some of the objects as instruments.

It was truly fascinating to observe.

10th May 2018F Waterhouse

The Yellow, Red and Blue Group went on a Sponsored Walk down to the local forest. We had a lovely time walking in the sunshine. We were super safe crossing the road and made sure we followed the rules of crossing a road.

Look Left, Look Right, Look Left again… Can you see anything? Can you hear anything? … Cross altogether.

We crossed the River Don and saw the ducks passing by. On our walk, we managed to collect some sticks for our camp fires at forest school and even had time to play a game of pooh stick!

It was a lovely day! Thank you to all the parents who came along!
