We’ve been working hard this week learning our Harvest Festival songs to perform for our grownups next week.

We talked about what happens during this time and all the different vegetables we like to eat.

The boys and girls made a plan to design and make our very own Green Group scarecrow! The Green Group worked together to make our new little addition!

Isn’t it great!

This week and last the blue group have been very busy. We have been singing our little hearts out on karaoke to our favourite songs, looking at familiar writing within logos and making soup for our harvest festival. The children were very excited to help to make the soup. We chopped up lots of vegetables which were donated to nursery by our lovely grownups.

This week we have been practicing our writing using the markers and white boards.  We did a ‘Writing disco’ where the children moved their pens to the music and produced different patterns.  We have been learning about autumn and what happens at harvest time.  We found out that farmers use scarecrows to frighten the birds off their crops so me made two.  The children decided on the names – Mia and Frankie!

We have started off the new Nursery year very happily in Red Group!  Most of the new children have settled well and are enjoying our activities.  We have been talking about autumn this week and have been out looking for signs of it around our Forest School.  We collected leaves to make prints with them and discovered lots of mushrooms growing on logs and in the grass.  We had a safety talk before we went out into Forest School where we looked at pictures of the dangers such as mushrooms and nettles so the children knew that we never touch mushrooms outside – ‘Just from Morrisons!’

Blue group

This week the blue group had their first forest school of the term, we talked about the season and what we could see changing then we explored colour mixing with the powder paints and looked for birds in the bird hide with binoculars.
We also did some leaf painting with autumn colours.
The blue group have been interested in tiny tweeties and have been moving to the music and following the instructions on the CD.
George the hamster game to visit us last Friday. We talked about where he lived, his size and what he might like to eat. The children suggested we give him some fruit as a treat next time.

The Green Groupers have been to FOREST SCHOOL this week! WOOHOO!
The children helped get dressed and tried putting on their splash suits and wellies ready to go and explore. We played a game of 1,2,3 Where are you… which was full of very funny as the children kept giggling while hiding.
We talked about the weather and season changing to autumn and made creative Autumnal pictures in group using our hands. We explored the dark gloomy weather and watched the rain in the top room before having a disco with the light wands!

Say Cheese to some of our green groupers…. CHEEEEEEEEEEESE!

Welcome Green Groupers!

What a busy week we’ve had. The children explored all the new areas in nursery and introduced themselves to their peers and staff. We went round each area as a group and explored all the different things available.
Most of the children engaged in a role play game outside where they all pretended to be firefighters and were trying to put out all the fires they could find around the nursery yard! They were very quick at putting them out!
The children planned together and explored together, what a lovely week!

This week the children were making play-dough at work time. We talked about the different ingredients we needed to put in the bowl and mix altogether. The children chose to make red play-dough and helped need the dough with flour to make it less sticky.

The green group also played a game of eye spy using familiar resources in the nursery. They were really good at guessing!

We also had a little visit from Daisy the dog!

This week the Blue Group have been very busy in Forest School as they took on the role of  nature detectives!   They used bug pots and magnify glasses as they worked together to find worms, slugs, snails, woodlice, black beetles, spiders and a ladybird as well as an array of birds.  We looked closely at the creatures, in much detail, before identifying them on our mini-beast charts.
