Today we had dads, grandads and uncles in nursery with our children playing together and having lots of fun. Thank you to everyone who turned up and supported this lovely day. Here are some of our pictures from the day.
We made pancakes this week – YUM YUM!! The children had the choice of what they would like to put on their pancake, some had chocolate some had strawberries.
We have been exploring painting using pipettes – we carried out an experiment to see if we could make new colours. Lucy said “I’ve made purple”, she told me red and blue make purple. Charlotte said “I’ve made green”, she told me blue and yellow make green. We have also been exploring hammers, talking about how we keep ourselves save and others around us.

After our lovely trip to the farm the children have been animal craaaazy! So we decided to explore different type of farm and wild animals for small group time.
The children were given individual bags full of different resources e.g. fences, walls, assortment of animals. They were left to their own creative devices to explore and play and build their own zoo’s and farms. Some of the children shared their resources with each other to make bigger fields of animals.
We also went on our Teddy Bears Picnic this week which was so much fun! We went down to the forest and had lots of yummy snacks with our cuddly teddy’s and then explored the environment, looking for flowers and climbing the trees.
Some children were ever so daring they climbed up so high and were swinging like cheeky monkeys!
The teddy’s also joined in and they all got stuck up the big tree and needed rescuing by Miss Pollard and Miss Begum!
We had a lovely walk there and back and the children were super sensible and looked after their teddies, especially when walking across the River Don where we stopped to look at the ducklings.
We have been focusing on activities linked to the summer season this week. This has included a walk to ‘the ‘Big Forest’ where we enjoyed climbing trees and having a picnic for snack. We saw ducks and their ducklings in the river Don and some of us were lucky enough to spot rabbits hopping about! We also made ice-cream sundaes, with different flavoured ice-cream, and enjoyed listening to stories about the seaside.
We like to use a range of objects and strategies at Planning Time in Red Group. The children have been experimenting with the voice recorders this week. It’s quite tricky to press down the 2 buttons and talk at the same time, but the children are having fun learning how to use it! The high winds on Thursday meant that Red Group were unable to go on the Forest School Teddy Bear’s Picnic. However, that did not stop us having fun! We took our teddies to the top room and had a lovely picnic then, we had a dance with them to the Beat Babies. That was not all, as we then went to the kitchen and had hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows! Lovely!
This week we have been focusing on superheroes. We made a mask and cape on Tuesday and became a superhero. On Thursday we made a lollystick superhero. Musical instruments have been a big interest. The children made their own drums using boxes and tubes and then went outside and used real instruments to make a marching band!
What a great week we have had!! Superhero week!!
We read Superhero Daisy – we talked about what superheroes do and what powers they might have. We made masks and capes and even had a race!! We also made superhero puppets using lolly sticks and material.
This week we explored sorting junk modelling materials into the correct categories. We looked at materials made out of plastic and cardboard and looked at different sizes. There was a lot of open ended discussion which was great to observe.
We also used mirrors to explore our faces and how different we are. The children noticed that they had different coloured eyes to some of their peers and different coloured hair. They were then trying to draw their faces using the mark making materials provided in their writing books. Some continued to check their faces in the mirror… and some practiced making silly faces!
Some of the boys and girls extended this by drawing other people important to them.
It was a lovely time mark making in the top room, we even had some calming instrumental music playing in the background before playing some of The Greatest Showman and having a sing a long!
