Red Group

Week Beginning 13.11.17

By F Waterhouse16th November 2017

Another very busy week!  We have been talking about the very important subject of road safety this week and have re-enforced the message by reading stories, singing songs and watching safety videos.  I think the children now know it is vital that they hold their grown up’s hand when they leave nursery.  A big thank you to the Red Group parents who came to help tidy our outdoor area.  You did a fabulous job! We also had time to do some splash painting which the children enjoyed very much.  It reminded them of Bonfire Night!

Week Beginning 06.11.17

By F Waterhouse10th November 2017

The children have all been really excited to tell me all about their firework experiences!  We have been doing lots of creative work around this theme, encouraging the children to express themselves with sound, colour and movement.  We made chalk pictures and the children talked about the sights, sounds and smells they encountered over the weekend.  We have been talking about fire safety and read ‘ Francis the Firefly’ which talks about the dangers of fire and how to be sensible around it.  Red Group are also becoming good at yoga!

Conkers have generated a lot of interest in Red Group this week as the children have been fascinated to open the cases and find the shiny conkers inside!  We have planned, counted and compared sizes with them and planted them in the digging area.  Other interests have been mark making and investigating shapes.  We were lucky enough to have children from Jarrow Cross School come to our Nursery and read Red Group a story.  We practiced our listening skills with a sounds game first!

We have had a great week this week, as we celebrated Harvest Festival and Will’s birthday! It has been windy, so we took advantage of this and worked with streamers and bubbles in the garden.  We also learned how to do some very tricky threading.

06.10.17 Readers from Jarrow Cross Primary School

By F Waterhouse6th October 2017

Today we had a visit from a school council member from Jarrow Cross Primary School who came and read one of our stories of the week to each of our groups of children. It was a lovely experience for all of the children.

Red Group Week of the 25th of September

By Mrs J Parker3rd October 2017

We have had a very exciting week because we have been doing a lot of things for the first time!  On Thursday Red Group were in Forest School.  It was tricky to put on our new splash suits, but most of the children had a good try.  We explored the forest then had hot chocolate and marshmallows in the fire circle.  Also, some of our new children have been my Special Helper and have done a good job.  It’s such and important job, everyone gets a turn!

FOREST SCHOOL Red Group 28.09.2017

Today we found some mushrooms growing in Forest School so the children talked about how they are dangerous and what we need to do if we find them.  The children cut and stuck pictures of our mushrooms and other mushrooms into the floor book and talked about what to do when we found them.

The afternoon children decided that they wanted to go on a worm exploring adventure.  We found lots of different sizes of worms, big long ones and skinny small ones.  We collected lots in a bucket and they children had a great time playing with them and measuring them.

All of the children sat round the campfire and revisited the campfire rules.  They were fantastic at remembering the campfire rules so we lit the campfire and the children toasted their own marshmallows!

Week beginning 18th September 2017

By F Waterhouse22nd September 2017

We have had a busy week this week, with lots of interesting things for our new children to experience. The older children in Red Group have been teaching the younger ones how to use the areas and how to tidy up! The children have explored a selection of the areas around our nursery and some of the children have been Special Helpers for the first time, which is very exciting!

FOREST SCHOOL Red Group 21.09.2017
Today the new children explored the Forest School areas. They were fantastic at putting on their own splash suits. We walked into the Willow Dome and introduced our Forest School Calendar and talked about the days of the week, the weather and the seasons. The children collected lots of leaves and compared their colours, shapes and sizes.

The children loved the fallen fruit from our orchard and they loved collecting them in buckets. Mrs Stephenson chopped up some pears, plums and apples from the garden and the children had a little try. They went down a treat!

We looked in the pond and caught a frog! The children had a great time looking closely and touching the frog.

Week Beginning 11th September 2017

By F Waterhouse14th September 2017

We did placing and arranging for our Small Group Time on Wednesday. Leo decided to make a play park with a slide and swings. Paris made a big tower, and Charlie made a farm with fences. Will made a mouse; he said “there are two eyes, a nose, a mouth, ears tummy and two legs”. Imogen made a roundabout and the sun shine.

Will and Imogen were active in our yoga session. They were very bendy!
